- The World’s Peace vs. God’s Peace
- Luke 2:1-5
- The World on Edge: The census ordered by Caesar highlights a world focused on human power and control
- God’s Hidden Plan: Unbeknownst to Caesar, he was simply an errand boy in God’s plan. Fulfilling Old Testament prophecy that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem
- Luke 2:1-5
- The Announcement: Good New for All People
- Luke 2:7-12
- To the Outsiders: The message was given to shepherds who were considered outcasts and the margins of society. This demonstrates that God’s peace is for everyone, regardless of status
- The Content of the News: The angel announces good news of great joy for all people because a Savior has been born, who is Christ the Lord
- The Sign: The sign is a baby wrapped in clothes and lying in a manger-a sign of vulnerability not military might
- Luke 2:7-12
- The Nature of Christ’s Peace: Reconciliation and Transformation
- Luke 2:13-14
- Peace with God: The primary peace Jesus brings is not merely the absence of conflict between people, but the end of hostility between a holy God and sinful humanity
- The Peace of God: This relational peace with God leads to an inner peace of God that brings calm in the midst of life’s storms and guards our hearts against anxiety
- Peace with others: Peace with God then enables us to pursue peace and reconciliation with other people, breaking down divisions and fostering harmony through a shared love for Christ
- Luke 2:13-14
- Responding to the Prince of Peace
- The Shepherd’s Response: The shepherds went with haste to see Jesus, then returned glorifying God and sharing the news with others
- Our Response: We are called to receive this gift of peace by turning from our sin and placing our faith and trust in Jesus
- Invitation: Do not be like the innkeeper who had no room. Offer Him a place in your heart, experience true peace, and share the good news with a world in desperate need of a real Savior
